Food, More Food & Don’t Forget the Food for 2012

Food is ruling my life at the moment.  And not how you think – I am actually dropping weight (and if you find it – KEEP IT!).

Beehive Blog has not had it’s usual attention for a bit as I have been leveraging my business and a few other blogs to position them for a Bright and Shiny 2012!  But now that has been almost accomplished and soon I can pour a big ole glass of Pinot Noir and take an evening off.  Soon.

For those of you who don’t know, I also blog about Food and run several Food Blogs – Foodies Unite and the Hungry Goddess.  Now we can add Fennel Friday to that and a new one coming (shhhhh but it’s about FOOD!).

Food obsessed maybe but when we analyzed our business for 2011 and goals for 2012, food kept coming up more and more.  And never let it be said that the Universe has to hit me over the head … ok.  there was that once.  But I dumped him.

To celebrate a Bright and Shiny 2012, I have set some food goals …

1.  No more processed food – this was a goal for 2011 and one that I feel like I achieved success with so I am continuing the trend into 2012.  I want it whole, natural, fresh, local, slow – whatever!  I just do not want ingredient lists that only a scientist or the CDC understands.

Quinoa Goddess2.  Eat More Quinoa – my friend and business partner, Beverly (aka The Healthy Goddess) introduced me to the delights of quinoa and it is a part of the daily meals here at the Hive.  The kiddo even chooses quinoa over pizza – I swear it and eats it for breakfast with spinach and eggs.  I will be creating more recipes around quinoa and integrating it along with other ancient grains into my meals.

3.  Save the Meat for Really Good Meat – I am a carnivore.  Red meat whispers softly into my ear as I am gnawing on broccoli.  My goal for 2012 is to leave the habit meals behind and focus on really good meat – example:  no more ground beef just to have a meat with the meal.  I am saving myself for steak – luscious cuts of grilled steak.  And since quinoa is a complete protein, this works really well.

4.  Drink More Water – I drink a lot of coffee.  I am not giving up my coffee but I am going to cut down on drinking coffee into the evening and drink more water.

5.  Use Unique Ingredients – part of my food budget for 2012 is going to unique ingredients.  I want to experiment a bit more with spices and herbs and unusual items.  Moroccan is going to be big in 2012 and I am getting on the African Curry Crazy Train – Check out my Sprouted Bean and Roasted Potato Curry.

6.  Learn Desserts – I am willing to try anything but I have a strange block about desserts.  I love to eat them but I never make them.  Like never.  This year I am going to change that.

7.  Take Some Classes – we have a great Culinary Institute here in South Florida so I am eyeballing some classes with the pros – exciting!

8.  Travel Just to Eat – I am promising myself one big trip and several little trips this year JUST TO EAT.  Watch out New Orleans – here I come!!!!!!!!!!

What are YOUR food goals for 2012?
